Exactly, this is what we are talking about in the beginning. You will be amazed to know that It is a place on earth where you can have no sensation of any sound. So we will tell you all the relevant facts and figures about this place in this article. By the end of
this article, you will be aware of all the necessary information regarding ANECHOIC CHAMBER.
Keep reading as we will give you step-by-step information.
The specially constructed chamber has been hide in the depths of Building 87 at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, where the firms’ hardware laboratories are based. Products like Surface computers, Xbox, and Hololens have been developed here. Microsoft engineers built the room – known as an anechoic chamber – to help the developers test the new equipment they had developed. In 2015 it set the official world record for silence when the background noise level inside was measured at an ear-straining -20.6 decibels. An anechoic chamber is a shielded room that has absorbing material applied to the walls, ceiling, and floor. These Chambers maybe tabletop-sized enclosures but are generally room-sized enclosures where engineers can enter and work. The absorbers on the inside surfaces are often pyramidal and give the room a unique science fiction look. You may also have heard that these are very expensive. So why would anyone go to all of this trouble? Because there are many benefits to antenna
Structure of anechoic chamber
An anechoic chamber (an-echoic meaning non-reflective, non-echoing, echo-free)is a room designed to absorb reflections of either sound or electromagnetic waves. They are often isolated from waves entering their surroundings. This combination means that a person or detector exclusively hears direct sounds (no reverberant sounds), in effect simulating being inside an infinitely large room. In general, it is a room whose boundaries absorb all the waves incident on them effectively by providing free field conditions. In addition to this, it is a space where the effects are negligible over the frequency range of interest. An anechoic chamber is designed in a way to minimize sound reflections as well as external noise. External noise is excluded by the physical isolation of the structure, elaborating acoustical filters in the ventilating ducts, and by thick masonry walls. The internal surface areas are covered with absorbing material, such as glass, fiber, or mineral wool in blankets or horizontal and vertical wedges. The ceiling and floor are similarly padded; a thin steel mesh just above the flour provides a surface for a walk. Sound reflection can be reduced to one part in 1,000 in such a room. Thus, it stimulates the acoustic conditions of unrestricted free space.
The inventor of an anechoic chamber
Anechoic chambers, a term coined by American acoustics expert Leo Beranek, were initially exclusively used to refer to acoustic Anechoic Chambers. Recently, this term has been extended to RF anechoic chambers, which eliminate reflection and external noise caused by electromagnetic waves. Anechoic chambers range from small compartments to the space of household microwave ovens to ones as large as aircraft hangars. The sizes of chambers depend upon the size of the object and the frequency range that has been tested.
Interesting facts Scary room
One of the most amazing things about this room is that some people consider the experience of going into this room scary as Orfield explained that the room is so silent since everybody goes inside the chamber becomes the sound of the area. When it is quiet, ears will adapt. The silent the room, the more things you hear. However, the room is so silent as if you stand in it for long enough. You start to listen to your heartbeat. A ringing in your ears becomes deafening. When you move, your bones will make a
grinding sound. Eventually, you lose your balance because the absolute lack of reverberation sabotages your spatial awareness.
Design and build
It took almost two years to design and build the chamber where the team of engineers now spend their days putting Microsoft technology through its paces. Although, looking for a suitable building took nearly eight months of testing to find one quiet enough to house it, so this is all about.
